We understand. It can happen to anyone. At Prop MD we can repair your partially, majorly, or even entirely missing skeg, and we can have you in and out in the SAME DAY! We work on skegs for all engine types and set ups.

- Weldable repairs are built up using high quality aluminum
- Full repairs are done using blanks that are designed to match the OEM shape, and thickness of your skeg.
- These blanks are CNC molded and made of durable, high grade aluminum.
- Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) welder is designed to prevent heat transfer. This is used to protect against warping seals. We are the ONLY shop in the Midwest to use this technology.
- Refinished using the finest in underwater primers (Interlux: Primocon)
- All skegs are painted using Factory color match paint (when available)
On The Boat (By Appointment Only)*
Don’t want to pull the lower from your drive? Just bring the whole boat! Our location allows us to work on the skeg while it is still on the trailer. Back it in the morning, and pull it out that same afternoon.
Turnaround Time: Same Day-Next Day**
Drop off: 7:00 am – 9:00 am (the earlier the better)
Pick up: 4:30 pm
Note:Any damage to the Forward (bow-ward) half of the cavitation plate cannot be done on the boat. The lower unit must be pulled in order to do these repairs.
Note: It is highly recommended that lower unit gear lubricant be changed after a skeg or cavitation plate repair.
* On the Boat skeg/cavitation plate repairs are done by appointment only. All appointments must be made by made by 12:00 (Noon) the day before.
** Official completion times will be determined at drop off when the damage can be evaluated.
Separate Lower Units (No Appointment Necessary)
If you don’t want to trailer around your whole boat, just bring the lower unit in. We will fix your skeg or cavitation plate with the same care and attention to detail as we do all our repairs.
Turnaround Time: 3-5 Business Days
If you are in need of a faster turnaround, call us. We will do our best to accommodate your situation.
Note: Please drain the lower unit of gear lubricant before bringing it in.
Despite all the preventative measures we take, it is possible that some internal damage can occur due to the heat required during the repair. It is a possibility and we do everything we can to prevent it, but all skeg repairs are done by request and at the customer’s own risk.
